According to the latest data from the Ministry of Public Administration, about 26 percent of government sanctioned posts are vacant, which means 500,000 posts are vacant. Analyzing the job circulars, it is found that around 60 lakh job aspirants apply for 50,000 posts in government and private agencies. Of these, about 2.5 million apply for several thousand positions in primary schools.
Speaking about the newly imposed VAT on job application, former cabinet secretary Ali Imam Mazumdar said, “The application fee is already a burden for job aspirants. And this newly imposed VAT will further increase the cost of the unemployed. If there is no other way than to levy VAT then the application fee should be reduced and adjusted accordingly.
He further said that right now the number of applicants is very high. The government should not charge additional application fee from the applicants.
“The government has several alternative sources of income. The former cabinet secretary said, the government can show some sympathy to the unemployed youth by withdrawing VAT in this sector.
