Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) spokesperson Mahdi Amin on Saturday said the government has launched 60 historic initiatives within two months, starting the journey on February 17 this year.
He said, “We all know that the present government completed two months of its tenure on Friday… I am presenting 60 effective steps taken by the Honorable Prime Minister in the last two months which reflect the aspirations of the people to ensure progress of the state and every citizen.”
Advisor to the Prime Minister, Mahdi Amin, said this while addressing a press conference at the PMO on Saturday afternoon on the government’s performance in the last two months.
Presenting the initiative, he said that as per the election pledge of the Prime Minister, the pilot project of providing “Family Card” to every household for women empowerment has been completed.
37,567 families have already received ”family cards”, while monthly cash assistance of Tk 2,500 is being given to each beneficiary, making it an international role model for women’s economic, family and social empowerment, he said.
Besides, the government has introduced ”Kisan Card” with 10 benefits and cash assistance for farmers, the PMO spokesperson said, adding that more than 22,000 marginal, smallholder and medium farmers in 10 districts have received the card.
Loans up to Tk 10,000, including interest, of about 12 lakh smallholders and marginal farmers have been waived off, he said.
Mahdi said that in order to maintain constitutional obligations and legal continuity, within a very short period of time, the government set a unique example of parliamentary democracy by resolving 133 ordinances in the first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS).
Among them, 16 ordinances, including the Human Rights Commission and the Prevention of Disappearances Ordinance, will be re-introduced as bills in the JS after further review, he said.
A program has been launched across the country for dredging and reclamation of 20,000 km long rivers, canals and water bodies, the PMO spokesperson said. Despite the rise in fuel prices across the world, the government has kept fuel prices under control through subsidies and special diplomatic efforts.
Through rooftop solar and net metering, 35 MW of power has been added to the national grid, he said, with a target to generate 10,000 MW of power through renewable sources, especially solar, by 2030.
Additionally, a pilot project for fuel cards has already been launched, the PM’s advisor said.
Since controlling commodity prices is one of the government’s priorities, prices remained stable compared to previous years even during Ramadan and the supply chain remained uninterrupted despite the liquidity crunch, he said.
Mahdi said the government has introduced a monthly allowance for religious leaders of mosques, temples, monasteries and churches, which will be gradually increased.
He said that during Eid-ul-Fitr, relief and gifts were distributed among the destitute across the country and steps have been taken to modernize the Zakat system.
The Prime Minister’s Advisor said that initiatives have been taken to launch the “Emigrant Card”, while the cost of Hajj has been reduced by Tk 12,000 per ticket and the Nusuk Hajj Card was introduced in the country for the first time this year.
Noting that 468,220 posts are vacant across all ministries and government offices in the country, he said six-month, one-year and five-year action plans have been made to fill the vacant posts.
Mahdi said a five-year strategic framework was being prepared to transform the economy into a trillion-dollar economy by 2034, and to facilitate foreign investment, the requirement of prior approval from the central bank for repatriation of investments up to Tk 1 billion has been removed.
He said payment of salaries and bonuses to industrial workers on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr has been ensured, and initiatives have been taken to sign bilateral agreements with seven European countries to find new labor markets, in addition to reopening the Malaysian labor market.
Regarding the government’s initiatives in the health sector, the PMO spokesperson said that it has been announced to recruit 100,000 health workers to ensure primary health care
Regarding the steps on education section, Mahdi Amin said that it has been decided to waive the admission fee.
He said that a provision for bank guarantee up to Taka 1 million has been made for higher education abroad.
Emphasizing the importance of sports and tree plantation, Mahdi said that 200 million tree plantation program in 5 years has been started and recruitment of sports teachers has started in each upazila.
Regarding cutting down on state expenditure, he said that the Prime Minister is staying in his house instead of using Rajya Bhawan Jamuna and has limited VVIP protocols.
PM’s advisor said, the historic decision of not accepting duty-free cars and government plots for ministers has been implemented.
The government has launched the Padma Barrage project to ensure adequate water during the dry season, he said, adding that steps have been taken to prevent dengue, cleanliness drives, and amendments in laws to prevent river encroachment and pollution.
Besides, initiatives have been taken to strengthen asset identification and legal assistance to bring back black money abroad, the PMO spokesperson said.
Saying that the Prime Minister’s 60 historic steps in two months of government are an unforgettable achievement, Mahdi said, “The Prime Minister has restored the confidence of the people of the country. He is working to build a prosperous Bangladesh by implementing the promises made in the election manifesto.”
PMO spokesperson said that the government under the leadership of the Prime Minister is moving at a fast pace in implementing the promises made in the election manifesto, adding that the government has adopted a 180-day action plan to ensure progress for every citizen.
Speaking about the BNP’s journey towards forming the government through the February 12 general elections, he said that after a long exile, the return of Tariq Rahman to the motherland was a historic event not only for Bangladesh but also for world politics.
Since then, the PMO spokesperson said, the international media has begun to regard Tariq Rehman as an indispensable prime minister and has published extensive features on his leadership, vision and policies.
“The landslide victory in the February 12 election has been described by local and international media and observers as a resurgence of democracy and a reflection of the people’s aspirations,” Mahdi said.
Heads of state from almost all countries of the world have sent congratulatory messages, expressed interest in working with a democratic government and extended hearty congratulations to the Prime Minister, he said.
The PMO spokesperson said that although a certain group resorted to multi-pronged disinformation in a systematic manner during the long fascist regime, conscious citizens had put up strong resistance against it.
Regarding the Prime Minister’s place among Time magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2026, he said that it is a matter of great joy and pride.
“Through this recognition, his visionary leadership, immense courage and outstanding contribution to restoring democracy have been acknowledged internationally,” Mahdi said.
