Government repression of opposition amid economic uncertainty: AB Party protests nationwide blockade

Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) on Thursday staged a protest in Bijay Nagar area of the capital in support of the nationwide blockade called by the real opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

AB Party member secretary Mojibur Rahman Monju led the solidarity meeting organized after the protest event.

Addressing the event, Mojibur Rahman said, “It is a shame to see that our poor textile workers are being shot by the police without any apparent crime, but they were demanding fair wages so that they can live with decency. Can live from. “We have seen unprecedented levels of inflation and price rises over the last 15 years under this authoritarian government.”

“Yet, we have seen that the government was busy suppressing opposition leaders and pro-democracy activists over the last 17 years. People’s well-being and safety are not their concern. Their only concern is to retain power at any cost,” said the AB Party member secretary.

He further said, “If the Election Commission dares to announce the election schedule without any political consensus, it will worsen the already volatile situation.”
