The government has sent letters to foreign missions in Dhaka explaining the reasons for arresting Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, general secretary of the opposition BNP, and Mirza Abbas, a member of its standing committee.
The letter also explained the reasons for the clash between the police and the leaders and workers of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party on 7 December in front of the party’s headquarters in Naya Paltan in the capital.
The letters were sent through the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday, a source in the ministry confirmed.
