Government to assist migrant workers with expired visas due to flight cancellations

Minister of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Ariful Haq Choudhary said the ministry will assist expatriates whose visas are expiring due to flight cancellations.

The ministry has launched a hotline to help migrants. Those who contact the Ministry will receive assistance within the capacity of the Government. The government is committed to solving any problem of the migrants.

Ariful Haq Chaudhary made the remarks to reporters after delivering the keynote address at the Holi festival organized by the Manipuri Academy of Culture and Arts at Mirzajungle Manipur Rajbari area of ​​Sylhet city on Saturday morning.

Responding to a question on what measures are being taken for Bangladeshis in the Middle East amid the prolonged war situation, the minister said, “The Ministry of Expatriate Welfare, Ministry of External Affairs and Civil Aviation are working jointly. As soon as information is received about expatriates killed in the conflict, the government of the country concerned is informed and procedures are followed accordingly. In countries where war situation persists, the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and embassies are regularly monitoring the situation. On another question about increasing robberies and law-and-order issues in Sylhet, Ariful Haq Choudhary said, “Those who weaken law and order will not be spared. We have directed the administration to arrest the robbers and bring them under the law. The Prime Minister has announced zero tolerance against terrorism and extortion. Therefore, such activities will not be tolerated in Sylhet under any circumstances. We want a safe Sylhet.”

Earlier, the inaugural address at the discussion session organized on the occasion of Holi festival was given by Assistant High Commissioner of India Aniruddha Das under the chairmanship of Digen Singh, President, Manipuri Academy of Culture and Arts.
