Government transforms Bangladesh Coast Guard into a modern and strong three-dimensional force

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said her government is transforming the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) into a modern and three-dimensional force by adding cutting-edge smart technologies, ships and helicopters to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

He said, “No one will be left behind. The Coast Guard will be enabled to meet the challenges of the 21st century by incorporating development of modern technology based ships, helicopters and communication system of the force.”

The Prime Minister said this while addressing a function on the occasion of the 29th foundation anniversary of BCG and BCG Day-2024 at the Coast Guard Headquarters in Agargaon area of ​​the capital.

He said his government is going to induct high quality modern ships, maritime surveillance system-equipped hovercraft and high-speed boats into the Coast Guard fleet to make the force more modern and strong.

At the same ceremony, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the Bangladesh Coast Guard VSATnet communication system and six newly constructed physical infrastructure at BCG stations at Qutubdia, Maheshkhali, Mirsarai, Sandwip, Nidraskina and Shahpari outposts.

Sheikh Hasina said the induction of the V-SATNET communication system that will connect the Coast Guard to Bangabandhu Satellite-1 will enhance the force's communication and operational capabilities.

“We have already approved purchasing two helicopters and formed an aviation wing to make the Coast Guard a three-dimensional force,” he said.
