Govt may procure 800,000 MT of paddy to ensure remunerative prices: Minister

He said that this time the government is procuring paddy at a higher price keeping in view the interests of the farmers.

Sadhan Chandra said that harvesting of paddy should be done within the next 15 days so that there is no damage to the crop in any natural calamity.

He said that the food officers were directed to blacklist the millers who did not sign the contract for supply of rice to the government in the last season and not to send their names while including them in the fit list. Those who helped the government by signing contracts are in the good book of the government.

A target was set to procure 400,000 tonnes of paddy, 1250,000 tonnes of parboiled rice and 100,000 tonnes of wheat in the current Boro Collection-2023 season. The collection will continue till August 31, 2023.

The storage price of Boro paddy has been fixed at Rs 30 per kg, parboiled rice at Rs 44 and wheat at Rs 35 per kg.

A press release said that the prices of paddy, rice and wheat in 2022 were Rs 27, Rs 40 and Rs 28 respectively.
