At least 13 residential hall units of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Dhaka University have condemned the atrocities on three leaders of the organization inside the Shahbag police station. But BCL has not yet issued any statement, which has angered the grassroots level workers of the organization.
Although BCL has maintained silence, BNP’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and the student union have issued statements condemning the attack.
However, BCL central president Saddam Hussain and secretary Sheikh Wali Asif yesterday went to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and demanded punishment of the police officers responsible for the attack.
Today, BCL leaders went to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) headquarters and urged DMP Commissioner Khandakar Golam Farooq to take action against the police personnel responsible.
However, these steps by the central leaders have failed to pacify a section of angry BCL leader-workers. They, mainly supporters of the president-secretary of DU unit BCL, blame the ‘lack of honesty’ of the two top leaders of the central BCL in raising their voice to ensure justice over the incident.
