More than 600 young people in Sweden, including climate activist Greta Thunberg, on Friday filed a lawsuit against the Swedish state, accusing the country of climate inaction for the first time.
“There has never been a case on such a large scale in the Swedish legal system”, Ida Edling, Aurora, a member of the organization behind the trial, told AFP.
Aurora said the lawsuit, which was symbolically filed at a Stockholm district court during a protest in the city on Friday, had previously been filed electronically at another Stockholm court.
