Local officials said on Saturday that gunmen killed at least 37 people in an attack on a camp for people displaced by violence in north-central Nigeria.
Friday’s attack on a school for displaced families in Benue state comes after gunmen attacked a village in the same state earlier this week, killing more than 50 people.
The motives for the attacks were unclear, but local officials have blamed ethnic Fulani nomadic herders, who have long been at war with settled farmers in Benue over access to land and resources.
“My security advisor has confirmed that 37 people have been killed,” Benue state governor Samuel Ortom told AFP by telephone.
