Paltrow has contended that he was in fact the culprit in the collision, exaggerating his injuries, and trying to take advantage of his celebrity and wealth. In addition to her acting career, she is also the founder and CEO of Goop, a high-end wellness company.
In court filings, her attorneys denied Sanderson’s claims and alleged that he was the one who crashed into her—a collision in which she suffered a “full body blow.” Her counterclaim alleges that members of Paltrow’s group checked on Sanderson, who assured them she was fine. This casts doubt on his claims of motive and injury, given that prior to the incident, he had 15 documented medical conditions.
His lawyers wrote in a 2019 court filing, “He demanded millions to be paid from Ms. Paltrow. If he did not pay, he would face negative publicity as a result of his allegations.”
The trial in Park City is set to last more than a week.
