A half-day hartal called by district unit BNP is progressing in Jessore on Saturday.
On Thursday, BNP announced the half-day hartal from 6:00am Saturday protesting assault on Maruful Islam, municipality mayor and BNP district unit president, allegedly by some Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League leaders.
Maruful Islam was assaulted when some BNP pickets locked into an altercation with some BCL and Jubo League activists in Daratana area in the district town during Thursday’s hartal.
The shutdown is being observed peacefully as no untoward incident was reported till filing of this report at 10:30 am.
