Hamas militants killed more than 1,300 Israelis in their attack on Saturday. Israeli airstrikes in response have so far killed more than 1,400 people in Gaza, officials there said.
As a ground invasion appears imminent, Israel is telling Gaza civilians to leave, with Hamas telling them to stay put.
“Citizens of Gaza City, for your own safety and the safety of your families, evacuate to the south and distance yourself from Hamas terrorists who are using you as human shields,” the army said.
“Hamas terrorists are hiding in tunnels under houses and inside buildings filled with innocent Gaza civilians in Gaza City.”
