He said the government announced austerity measures because of the global crisis triggered by the coronavirus pandemic and Russia’s war in Ukraine. “We have cut unnecessary spending and you should be careful about that too.”
Hasina noted that the government has suspended a project to buy 200,000 electronic voting machines to save money.
However, the government will spend as much as is necessary to increase agricultural production to ensure food security.
Hasina issued 25 directions to the deputy commissioners, which include efforts to motivate people to increase food production and save electricity by cultivating barren land.
