The construction work of about 64.7 km railway line was completed at a cost of Taka 4,260 crore, which will open new opportunities in trade and commerce in the south-western region of the country including Mongla ports.
With the opening of the rail link, Bangladesh’s second largest port Mongla was connected to the broad-gauge railway network.
The Maitri Super Thermal Power Project, under the Indian Concessional Financing Scheme loan of $1.6 billion, consists of a 1320MW (2×660) Super Thermal Power Plant (MSTPP) located at Rampal in Khulna Division.
This plant helps to meet the increasing demand for electricity in Bangladesh.
The project is implemented by Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Private) Limited (BIFPCL), a 50:50 joint venture company between India’s NTPC Limited and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
Unit I of the Maitri Super Thermal Power Plant was jointly unveiled by the two Prime Ministers in September 2022 and Unit II was inaugurated today.
