“In that case, we would be able to export large quantities of rice instead of importing grain,” he said.
Hasina also directed officials to ensure that the stock of food grains in Bangladesh is not less than 1.5 million tonnes. According to the cabinet secretary, till November 22, the stock of food grains in the country was 16 lakh tonnes.
To deal with the dollar crisis, the prime minister asked officials to continue practicing austerity. “We should give priority to things that are essential, such as energy, fertiliser, food and critical capital machinery. Expenditure on luxury goods will have to be cut,” said Anwarul.
