According to Atiqul, the residents of Mirpur had long demanded a flyover at Kalshi, as the main entrance to Mirpur from the airport road was fraught with severe traffic jams.
To avoid congestion, commuters usually choose the 10 km long route. “Now, with the construction of the flyover, they no longer need to do that.”
The Mayor said that at least two overhead footbridges with escalators have been constructed next to the flyover. Separate lanes have also been made for cyclists.
The project was approved by ECNEC on January 9, 2018, under which 3.70 km of road from ECB Square to Kalshi was widened, while a 2.34 km long flyover was constructed at Kalshi Square.
