Asked about reports of extremist activity in the country and reports of increased airport security, the minister said, “I understand your questions. But I don’t recognize that word. There is no such activity in our country. There are some extremist groups – such groups are active in all countries. There are some fundamentalist forces, some fundamentalist political parties; we are used to them, they exist. But the word you used no longer exists in the current culture of our country. This word Used to be during the fascist period, when it was used as a tool to serve them. At present, such institutions no longer exist in Bangladesh.

Responding to a separate question regarding recent allegations involving members of a special force, the Home Minister said, “This is not unique to Bangladesh; in every country, disciplinary and defense forces have intelligence wings. Military intelligence works to determine whether any member of its own force is involved in activities against the state or other misconduct.

It is present in all forces along with integrated mechanisms and central vigilance. If anyone is found involved in such activities, he is identified and procedures are followed under military law. This is nothing new.”
