During a conversation with Prothom Alo on Saturday, Farooq revealed in detail the process of price manipulation.
According to him, traders in Dhaka fix the price and send it to local farmers through mobiles. If a farmer agrees to the price, the middlemen reach his fields with transport. If a farmer asks for a higher price, they don’t collect the eggs.
Expressing dismay, Farooq alleged that the process benefits middlemen rather than farmers and consumers have to pay unreasonably high prices.
Majbaul Murphy, another poultry farmer from Joypurhat, also made similar remarks. He said that while selling eggs in the markets, there is no room left for him to negotiate the price.
