After the police action, there was an atmosphere of panic in the Naya Paltan area. After expelling all the leaders and workers from the BNP office, the police had locked the office.
They did not allow party general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to enter the office on Thursday afternoon. Vehicular traffic remained closed on Naya Paltan Marg till Thursday afternoon.
Nevertheless, the government gave an excuse for not allowing the BNP to hold a rally in Naya Paltan on the pretext of people facing transportation problems.
Before and after the police force on the BNP office in Naya Paltan, several BNP leaders and activists were arrested from various places in Dhaka. Even arrest warrants were issued against some of them by reviving old cases.
People are seeing that the ruling party is free to hold meetings, rallies and conferences anywhere, while all conditions and prohibitions apply when it comes to the opposition.
