The issue sparked discussion yesterday after Prothom Alo published a report titled “Opposition leader wants posting for his advisor in Foreign Ministry.”
The Jamaat later issued a clarification saying that advisor Mahmudul Hasan had added the section about giving ministerial posts to the letter without the Amir’s instructions. After the matter came to light, Mahmudul Hasan has been relieved of duty.
After another media report mentioned a phone conversation between the Jamaat and the Foreign Minister, the ministry said in its statement that no such conversation had taken place.
The statement also provided detailed information about the background and contents of the letter at the center of discussion.
According to the ministry, on February 22, Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan had sent a letter to the Foreign Minister on behalf of the leader of the opposition. It was first sent electronically and later handed over directly to the Foreign Minister. The letter was written on the official parliamentary letterhead of the Leader of the Opposition and bore only his signature.
