Increase in inward remittances from UAE, UK; Denial from Saudi Arabia and America

Some analysts believe that a section of people are bringing back black money to get incentives. It is possible that after receiving incentives, that money is being laundered again through informal means. As a result, inward remittances from the UAE through formal channels suddenly began to flow.

However, bankers said banks are now providing various facilities for inward remittances. As a result, there has been an increase in inward remittances through formal channels.

Syed Mahbubur Rahman, managing director of Private Mutual Trust Bank, while speaking to Prothom Alo, said that expatriates are getting facilities if they send remittances through formal channels. Various types of campaigns are being run in UAE. As a result, inward remittances from the country have increased.

According to Bangladesh Bank, the country received 15.08 billion US dollars between July and February in the current financial year. A total of US$ 2.91 billion has been sent from UAE, US$ 1.88 billion from UK, US$ 1.79 billion from Saudi Arabia, US$ 1.68 billion from USA and US$ 1 billion from Italy. 61 percent of total remittances in eight months came from these five countries.
