India has awarded Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarships to 541 Bangladeshi students for the 2026-27 academic year.
The recipients were selected from more than 7,700 applicants from across Bangladesh through proficiency tests and interviews conducted by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and its assistant high commissions in Bangladesh.
Of the total, 500 students received the Subarno Jayanti Scholarship to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies in both STEM and non-STEM disciplines.
Another 38 students were awarded the Lata Mangeshkar Dance and Music Scholarship to study music, dance and other cultural subjects, while three students received the ICCR’s QUAD Scholarship for undergraduate STEM education.
According to the Indian High Commission, the scholarship holders will study at institutions including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), the University of Delhi, Visva-Bharati University, the University of Mumbai and Anna University.
Speaking at a send-off ceremony organised by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka today, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi urged the recipients to serve as ambassadors of both Bangladesh and India during their stay.
The event was attended by more than 120 students from Dhaka who will soon travel to India.
Dinesh Trivedi encouraged the students to make the most of their time in India by excelling academically, exploring the country’s diversity and building lasting friendships. He said they could serve as a bridge between Bangladesh and India through their educational experience.
He added that India was ready to welcome the scholars and that studying there would provide them with an opportunity to experience the country’s cultural and regional diversity.
The fully funded scholarships cover tuition and university fees, while recipients also receive a monthly stipend to meet their living expenses.
