Bangladesh got bad news in the morning as they had to take the field without their captain Shakib Al Hasan, but their opening batsmen got off to a solid start after stand-in captain Nazmul Hasan won the toss.
After a record-breaking 93-run opening partnership, Bangladesh lost their way in the middle, before Mahmudullah played a late cameo to take his team to 256-9.
Liton Das and Tanzid Hasan were very cautious in the beginning as they scored only ten runs in the first five overs. But they started gaining momentum and added 53 runs in the next five overs without losing any wicket.
Tanjeed, who had struggled in the first three matches, completed his half-century in the 14th over and the pair created Bangladesh’s highest ever opening partnership in the World Cup. Mehrab Hossain and Shahryar Hossain made a 69-run partnership during Bangladesh’s historic win against Pakistan in 1999.
But in the next over, when the score was 93, Tanzeem was out on the ball of Kuldeep Yadav after scoring 51 runs out of 43.
When the score was 110, Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Nazmul Hussain for eight runs. Bangladesh decided to send on Mehidy Hasan Miraz and he was out for just three runs, leaving the team at 129-3.
The fall of wickets at the other end could have put pressure on Liton and he decided to play a hasty shot. The right-handed batsman, who seemed to be returning to form, tried to edge Kuldeep at the long-off boundary and was caught by Shubman Gill. Liton scored 66 runs off 82 balls and Bangladesh were reduced to 137-4 in the 28th over.
