India’s foreign ministry said the country is ready to help China, one of the largest manufacturers of generic drugs in the world.
“We are monitoring the COVID situation in China,” MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi told a regular news briefing. “We have always helped other countries as the pharmacy of the world.”
According to the latest annual report by Pharmexcil, India’s pharma exports to China accounted for only 1.4% of its total exports in 2021/22. The United States continues to be India’s largest destination for drug exports.
Shares of Indian pharmaceutical companies have rallied in the past few days on concerns of a COVID-19 resurgence.
