Indian security forces killed at least seven Maoist rebels on Tuesday, police told AFP, the latest clash in a decades-long conflict in the country's jungle central forests.
The guerrillas were killed in a remote part of the central state of Chhattisgarh, which has been the site of several deadly attacks on rebel camps this year.
Security deployment has been stepped up in the state over the past month as India is currently in the middle of a six-week general election.
“The bodies of seven Maoists have been recovered,” Bastar district Inspector General of Police Sundarraj Pattilingam told AFP.
Two of the killed cadres were women, he said, adding that a large cache of weapons, including automatic firearms, had been recovered.
