Speaking to Prothom Alo, Mohd Zubair Hussain, Commander of Balimari Camp BGB, said that it is the responsibility of the forest department to drive away wild elephants. Nevertheless, the BGB visited the area after being informed and assisted the local people to drive away the elephants at night.

When asked whether the Indian Border Security Force has been informed about the wild elephants, Zubair Hussain said, “BSF is aware of this as they monitor herds of wild elephants from the forest and barbed wire when these animals come. Let’s open the gate of the fence. Then enter Bangladesh.

“However, I have informed higher authorities, including the forest department,” he said.
