Shama Obaid described the implementation of Sheikh Hasina’s decision as “extremely important” for the people, democracy and history of Bangladesh.

He said, “In this month of July, it is important to convey that the families of those who have bled, died and are injured need closure. They also want to see justice for those who murdered their children, whose children are injured and lying in beds in hospitals.”

“So, overall, the Bangladesh government is making efforts very seriously, and we want her (Sheikh Hasina) to be brought back as soon as possible,” he said.

Responding to a question about Sheikh Hasina, the Minister of State for External Affairs said, “Since the sentencing has been announced, there is no legal opportunity for the accused person to surrender. Therefore, whenever she returns to Bangladesh, she will be arrested. It will be legal.”

Shama Obaid said that communication is ongoing with India under the extradition treaty to bring back Sheikh Hasina.
