Pant has suffered a prolonged absence from competitive cricket and is likely to miss the four-Test Australia series starting February 9 at home, a BCCI official was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India news agency.
A maverick batsman, Pant is a mainstay of the Test team and has played a key role in some of India’s most memorable victories over the last three years.
But his white-ball form has been inconsistent in the recent past and Pant was dropped from the squad for the T20 and ODI tour of Sri Lanka starting next week.
The wicketkeeper’s blunder came days after his match-winning innings of 93 in the second Test against Bangladesh, which helped India complete a 2–0 series whitewash.
