Inflation has increased for three consecutive months and the total inflation rate has increased to 8.58 percent in January this year.

Inflation had also increased in December and November.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Sunday released inflation data for the month of January.

The total inflation rate in December was 8.49 percent. Earlier in November, the inflation rate had increased to 8.29 percent.

As a result, pressure on middle-income and low-income people has increased.

On the other hand, the new government after the elections will have to face an inflation rate of more than 8.5 per cent, reducing which will be a significant challenge, experts believe.

According to BBS calculations, food inflation stood at 8.29 per cent in January, while non-food inflation stood at 8.81 per cent. Food inflation has increased for four consecutive months.
