Lieutenant General (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, known as one of the key figures behind ‘1/11’, was arrested from his residence in Baridhara DOHS area of the capital late on Monday night by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
On Tuesday, the court had taken him on five-day remand in a human trafficking case registered at Paltan police station.
Masood Uddin Chaudhary, currently in DB custody, was interrogated for the third consecutive day yesterday. A relevant source said investigators are questioning him about how he became influential during the ‘1/11’ period and allegations that he later took advantage by using the state machinery during the tenure of the Awami League government.
He has declared himself innocent in some cases and has given misleading information on others. The information received requires verification, and hence more time is required for questioning.
When contacted, DB joint commissioner (cyber) Syed Harun-ya-Rashid said the investigation is ongoing and is still in the initial stage.
The DB has received information about a total of 11 cases against Masood Uddin Chaudhary, which include charges of murder, money laundering, human trafficking and fraud.
It is also learned that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is taking steps to investigate allegations of financial corruption against him.
