The Steve Jobs-founded company has been making a much-publicised push into India, with Cook himself attending the opening of the country’s first Apple Store last month.
Cook said, “India is an incredibly exciting market. It’s a major focus for us. I was just there, and the dynamism, the vibrancy in the market is incredible.”
The country is home to the second largest number of smartphone users in the world and the efforts there help shift attention away from the company’s reliance on China.
Mac sales fell to about $7.2 billion as worldwide belt-tightening affected the entire personal computer market.
Research firms IDC and Canalys have reported that shipments of Apple Mac and MacBook, which are in the premium segment of the market, declined by more than 40 per cent in the quarter.
Even though iPhones have been the heart of Apple’s money-making machine, the company has prioritized bringing in more revenue from the content and services sold to users of its devices.
