On the other front of the war in Lebanon, Israeli strikes on a town in the south of the country killed six people and wounded seven others, state media said on Tuesday, as fighting continued despite a ceasefire agreement.

Israel has stepped up its attacks in southern Lebanon as it continues firing with Iran-backed Hezbollah despite a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon on April 17 aimed at stopping the fighting.

More than 2,800 people have died in Lebanon since the country was dragged into the Middle East war on March 2, according to health officials.

Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem said on Tuesday that his group’s weapons were not part of the upcoming third round of talks between Lebanon and Israel this week, reiterating threats against Israel.

“We will not surrender and we will continue to defend Lebanon and its people, no matter how long it takes and what great sacrifices we have to make,” he said in a written statement.

“We will not give up the battlefield and we will turn it into hell for Israel.”
