More drones have been reported flying over Kuwait, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Oman, undermining US and Israeli claims of destroying Iran’s long-range weapons stockpile.
Additionally, a US military refueling plane crashed in western Iraq on Thursday, in an incident the US said also involved another aircraft but was not the result of hostile or friendly fire. Seven American soldiers have been killed since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28.
Iran has said it will not let oil back through the strait until US and Israeli attacks stop, but Trump shrugged off high prices.
“The United States is by far the largest oil producer in the world, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money,” Trump wrote on social media.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant told Sky News in an interview that the US Navy, perhaps with an international coalition, would escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz if militarily possible.
America, along with being a net oil exporter, is also the world’s largest oil consumer. Economists say continued high prices will fuel broader inflation.
Separately, Trump said the Iranian men’s national soccer team is welcome to participate in the 2026 World Cup, which is being co-hosted by the U.S., but he also said it is not appropriate for them to remain there “for their own lives and safety.”
