Is Bangladesh government using old cases to arrest BNP leaders?

The list of BNP workers and leaders punished under fake cases is gradually increasing, while the campaign to arrest party leaders under old ‘subversion’ cases is also continuing.

BNP’s central publicity secretary and former MP Shahid Uddin Choudhary is the latest victim.

He was arrested from his house by members of Dhanmondi police station in the early hours of Wednesday in a ‘vandalism’ case.

Apart from this, new cases are being registered against BNP workers. A total of 14 cases were registered against BNP leaders and workers in Jashore, Kushtia, Siddhirganj of Narayanganj and Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram in the last five days.

According to Prothom Alo correspondents in these areas, about 323 active BNP leaders and workers have been accused in these cases.

Of them, around 11 cases were registered against leaders and workers of BNP and Jamaat Islami in Jashore alone. Police have arrested about 77 leaders and workers of BNP and Jamaat Islami in these cases. BNP has called these cases fake.
