The Islamic State claimed responsibility for Friday’s attack on Pakistan’s embassy in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, a statement by one of the terrorist group’s affiliated channels on Telegram said on Sunday.

The embassy came under attack on Friday with a Pakistani security guard injured after officials said Islamabad attempted to assassinate its chief of mission, who was unhurt.

Islamic State claimed the attack was carried out by two of its members armed with “medium and sniper weapons” and was targeting the ambassador and his guards who were in the embassy compound.

The group said at least one guard was injured in the attack and the building was damaged.
