Palash, along with his 15-year-old son Anik, was on his way to the capital’s Mirpur via the Tongi bridge on a motorcycle. When they reached the bridge, some policemen stopped them and searched their bodies and belongings. At one point, they took her mobile phone and checked the messages and photos.
The father-son duo was detained from the spot but managed to get themselves freed after earnest request. Palash said, ‘I am a simple worker and not in any party’s politics. Still, the police harassed me like this.” (Prothom Elo Online, December 7)
However, such searches are claimed to have been carried out under regular duty of the police. As per the prevailing law, the police can conduct searches subject to certain conditions. It has been alleged that these conditions were not fulfilled in the manner in which the raid was conducted on Wednesday.
