Highlighting Ishaq Sarkar as the highlight of the programme, Nahid Islam said: “Ishaq Sarkar needs no introduction. He has played the central leadership role in Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal. He faced many cases during the anti-fascist movement. He is our ally. He has done opposition politics before and will continue to do so.”
He further said, “Ishaq Sarkar is an inspiration for us. He has given up all privileges to stand with the people and the youth. Along with him, many of his followers are joining the NCP. We welcome them too.”
After this, Nahid Islam formally welcomed Ishaq Sarkar and other new members one by one by giving them flowers. Later, he and Nasir Uddin Patwari left IDEB to attend another event. Subsequently, Cultural Liberation Alliance leader Maqsudur Rahman Sohail also joined the NCP and was welcomed with flowers by other party leaders.
After this Ishaq Sarkar and the newly joined members spoke. NCP MP Abdullah Al Amin, senior leaders Sarjis Alam and Asif Mahmood Shojib Bhuiyan also addressed the event.
Earlier, on April 19, 44 leaders of Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), United People’s Bangladesh (UP Bangladesh) and Anti-Discrimination Students Movement had joined the NCP. Most of those 44 leaders were activists of UP Bangladesh, a political platform formed by former leaders of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
