The Israeli military said early Saturday that it had launched “wide-scale attacks” on government targets in Tehran.
Iran’s state broadcaster reported an explosion in the western part of the capital but further information was not immediately available.
US Central Command, which is responsible for US forces in the Middle East, said more than 3,000 Iranian targets had been struck in the past week, including Revolutionary Guard headquarters, command-and-control centers, air defense systems, missile sites, naval warships and submarines.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the United States is “not concerned” about reports that Russia is providing intelligence to Iran on US military positions and activities.
While declining to confirm the reports, Hegseth said in an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes”: “We’re keeping an eye on everything.”
The renewed Israeli strikes on Tehran came a day after Israel stepped up its airstrikes on Lebanon, hitting the southern suburbs of Beirut, where Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah has influence, and Baalbek in the east.
