Israel bombs Gaza targets as its PM condemns Hamas ‘brutality’

Gaza was again heavily bombed, with skies blackening and Hamas saying at least 30 people were killed in overnight attacks.

Debris, burnt cars and broken glass leave streets in Gaza City, where bombs hit the Hamas-linked Islamic University. Residential buildings, mosques, factories and shops were also targeted, said Salama Maarouf of the Gaza government media office.

Gaza resident Mazen Mohammed, 38, said his terrified family spent the night hiding together as the explosions shook the area and woke up in the morning to assess the total devastation in their neighborhood.

“We felt as if we were in a haunted town, as if we were the only survivors,” Mohammed told AFP.

The Israeli military said the warplanes also destroyed a Hamas anti-aircraft detection system and 80 targets in the northern Beit Hanoun area, including two banks used to “finance terrorism.”

Emergency room doctor Mohammed Ghonim said Gaza’s overcrowded al-Shifa hospital was running low on medical supplies, including oxygen.
