Italy’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro has paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister’s Defence Advisor AKM Shamsul Islam in Dhaka.
The meeting was held on Tuesday at the advisor’s office in Dhaka Cantonment, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
A four-member delegation led by the ambassador attended the meeting.
During the talks, the two sides exchanged greetings in a cordial atmosphere and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Italy, with a particular focus on defence cooperation, the ISPR statement said.
They also emphasised deepening the existing friendly ties through enhanced collaboration in training, capacity building, and the exchange of expertise, the statement added.
Issues related to regional and global security cooperation also came up for discussion.
Both sides expressed their commitment to elevating mutual trust, cooperation, and strategic relations to a new level, according to the ISPR statement.
