Jailed Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nargess Mohammadi faces new sentence: Family speaks out

Mohammadi, whose family accepted the 2023 Nobel Prize on her behalf in Oslo in December, was given the award in recognition of her campaigning for human rights in Iran.

He has spent most of the last two decades in and out of prison and began serving his most recent sentence in November 2021.

But behind bars in Tehran’s Evin prison she has not given up campaigning for her rights, accusing authorities of systematic violations, and particularly criticizing their use of the death penalty.

A staunch opponent of mandatory hijab in the Islamic Republic, she has also flouted rules about wearing a headscarf inside prison.

According to his family, this resulted in Mohammadi being further punished, notably being deprived of the right to make phone calls.
