Various local government by-elections were held on 9 March. In these elections, Jamaat leaders had contested as independent candidates on many seats. Jamaat-backed candidate Farooq Hussain also won the post of president in Peraband union of Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur.
The Zilla Jamaat has finalized candidates for three posts in Damurhuda Upazila Parishad of Chuadanga district for the May 8 upazila elections. Jamaat has elected District Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Azizur Rahman for the post of President, Amir Naib Ali of Damurhuda police station for the post of Vice President and Shura member of Jamaat Rehana Khatoon for the post of Woman Vice President. In Birampur upazila of Dinajpur, the candidate is District Jamaat Naib-e-Amir Muhaddis Inamul Haq. He is the former chairman.
However, Jamaat's central assistant general secretary Abdul Haleem, speaking to Prothom Alo on Friday, said, “We are not announcing participation in the elections on behalf of the party.
