In the 13th national parliamentary elections held on 12 February, the BNP won an absolute majority, winning 209 seats on its own and 212 seats in alliance. Jamaat won 68 seats independently and 77 seats in alliance.
Two days after the election, on 15 February, the 11-party alliance applied to the Election Commission for recount in 32 constituencies where the difference in votes ranged from 1,026 to 13,632 votes.
Of those seats, 25 candidates were from Jamaat, three from National Citizen Party (NCP), two from Khilafat Majlis, and one each from Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
