The responsibility of investigating the case has been handed over to Inspector Sheikh MD Ali Murtuja of Daulatpur police station. Speaking today (Wednesday) afternoon, he told Prothom Alo, “No accused has been arrested yet. Hopefully, arrests will be made. Operations are ongoing.”
In the case statement, Fazlur Rehman said that Darbar Sharif was held at the house of his younger brother Abdur Rehman (57) in Philipnagar. At around 2:45 pm on Saturday, his brother was in the court when, allegedly on the orders of key accused Khaja Ahmed, 180 to 200 people – including the named accused – entered the premises armed with iron rods, sickles, machetes, knives, axes, bamboo sticks and wooden sticks. They broke the doors and windows of the court.
After this Rajib and others went to the second floor and beat a man named Zobayar (31) indiscriminately with iron rods. After this, Rajib Mistry, with the intention of killing him, hit Abdur Rehman on the waist and then on the head with an iron rod.
The complaint further states that unidentified assailants caused serious injuries to Abdur Rehman with sharp weapons, targeting his head, right jaw, lips, chin, left side of the back and behind the right knee, leaving him seriously injured. They also beat him with bamboo sticks and wooden sticks.
