Other countries have urged their citizens in Sudan to provide their names and contact details to their embassies.
The US Embassy in Khartoum has begun collecting personal details of citizens, urging them to stay indoors and away from windows.
“Due to the uncertain security situation in Khartoum and the closure of the airport, (a) there are no plans for a coordinated evacuation by the US government,” the embassy tweeted.
