Journalist Samsuzzaman sent to Kashimpur jail

Samsuzzaman was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) court in Dhaka at 10.30 am on Thursday, nearly 30 hours after she was picked up from her residence in Savar.

Ramna police station had appealed to the court to keep him in jail. Meanwhile, Samsuzzaman’s lawyers appealed for bail. The hearing of the appeal began at around 2 pm.

Samsuzzaman was brought from the lock-up and made to stand in the dock. At the end of the hearing, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofzel Hussain of the CMM court rejected the bail plea and ordered him to be sent to jail. He was taken to Dhaka Central Jail at Keraniganj in a jail van at 3.30 pm.

At 4:00 am on Wednesday, Samsuzzaman was picked up from her house in Savar by persons claiming to be CID personnel, after which she was not found. About 1 hour 45 minutes before he was picked up, the first case under the Digital Security Act was registered against him at Tejgaon police station.
