Joya Chakma becomes first Bangladeshi female referee

World’s football governing body FIFA has officially recognized former national footballer Joya Chakma as FIFA recognized referee. So from now on she can referee international football matches. Joya Chakma is from Rangamati, played for national women’s football team. Nine months age she decided to carry on her refereeing career. She was also a football coach of Bangladeshi renowned football academy, BKSP. Earlier she completed Level 1, 2, and 3 courses to become national referee.
Though Joya started refereeing in 2010, but becoming a FIFA recognized referee was not easy. She appeared for exam twice before, but didn’t succeed. Finally she passed referring test in last August. Since then she was waiting for official recognition. She had to run 4000 meter in given limited time slot to prove that she is fit for referring international matches.
FIFA sent the official letter on 5th December. Another Bangladeshi female candidate Salma Islam Moni was waiting for recognition, she have to wait more because minimum age requirement is 23.
