The Universal Pension Management Bill, 2023 was passed in the Jatiya Sansad (JS) on Tuesday, which aims to include citizens in the age group of 18 to 50 years in the pension scheme.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal introduced the bill in the House, which was passed unanimously by a voice vote under the chairmanship of Jatiya Parliament Speaker Shireen Sharmin Chowdhury.
Opposition MLAs Fakhrul Imam of Mymensingh-8, Mujibul Haque of Kishoreganj-4, Roshan Ara Mannan of Mahila seat-47, Shamim Haider Patwari of Gaibandha-1, Pir Fazlur Rahman of Sunamganj-4, Qazi Firoz Rashid of Dhaka-6, Gano Forum MLA from Sylhet-1 Mokabbir Khan and Independent MLA from Bogura-7 Rezaul Karim Bablu opposed the bill and demanded further public review on the bill.
Opposition MPs said the proposed law did not discuss how much amount would be contributed by the government to the depositor.
