Kailash Kher is a famous Indian Sufi singer. His unique soulful, high-pitched, soulful voice is making sensations in India. Now a day there is seldom a film which doesn’t includes Kailash Kher’s song. Kailash first received comments like flawed and untrained voice. But he proved all those critics wrong as many music directors are creating songs especially for Kailash in films. Kailash Kher has a typical Bollywood story. For some time he was struggling for a residence in Mumbai and living on Andheri railway station and now he is sensational singer of India.

Along with playback singing, Kailash had formed his band called ‘Kailasa’. The band also includes musician brothers Naresh and Paresh Kamath. Paresh and Naresh were earlier worked with Bombay Black. Kailash also is active performer. His live performances are always hits.

Kailash Kher came to fame with a song ‘Allaah Ke Bande’ from the film Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II. Although the film was a low budget and less known film, his song worked which brought him in limelight. Kailash also had sung many songs from film Mangal Pandey: The Rising including it hit title track. Amir Khan star of Mangal Pandey says that his voice itself is music for ears. Whereas a renowned music director AR Rehman says that his voice is ‘fragrance of rural Indian soil. His hit tracks include songs like Tauba Tauba and Ya Rabba from his album Kailasa. Also the song ‘O Sikandar’ from movie Corporate was hit, in which he also appeared on screen.

Kailash born in Meerut. He started learning Indian music since the age of 12. Kailash says that his father has much influence on his music. His father was very fond of singing devotional songs. He always had chanting with Kailash about Indian folk songs which inspired Kailash. Before singing Kailash tried his hand in family friend’s sari export business, but it didn’t work out. So Kailash moved to Mumbai to try luck in Bollywood.

Like many other singers Kailash started his singing career by singing jingles. A jingle for Nakshatra diamonds by Ram Sampat was his first jingle, which earned him Rs. 5,000. Later he did many jingles but was not getting any chance to step into film industry. He gets his chance with Allah Ke Bande from Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II. But the low budget film was declared flop and Kailash lost his hopes.

Later Kher thought that he got his big break when music director Aadesh Srivastava offered him song in Shah Rukh Khan’s production venture ‘Chalte Chalte’. The song was Tujh Par Gagan. But that also didn’t work out for him, because he gets shocked when he got the cassette and heard the same song in other singer’s (Sukhwinder Singh) voice. Till then he was forgotten about the song Allah Ke Bande, because it was already an obscure movie. But Allah Ke Bande was his career’s first and biggest hit, which set his life.

Kailash is very fond of the legendary singer Nusarat Fateh Ali Khan. He dedicated one song from his album Kailasa to Nusarat Ali. Kailasa was Kher’s first non-film album, featuring eight tracks. Out of which seven were composed by Kailash.

Besides this Kailah also had sung at a private function of Sonia Gandhi. He also had done shows which were organised for him from Rave magazine. Kailash had won many songs including the Young Achiever’s award by the Indo-American society.
